I remember reading an article in the paper, shortly before this story starts, that mentioned how about 60 people every year contact the Amsterdam waste department because they lost their wedding ring in one of those underground containers, when I read it I thought: "What idiot would throw his /her wedding ring in the trash -even by accident!?"
